An island is seen from every side, so it has no "back" you can get away with doing roughly. The overhang, the end faces, the joint between the top and the sides — all of it is on show, and all of it is made from one material as one piece.

About the overhang and supports
An overhang beyond 25–30 cm needs a support — a bracket, a leg or an extension of the cabinet. Stone is strong, but it behaves like a slab: without support a long cantilever eventually cracks at the edge of a cutout, and that is physics, not a warranty case.
We agree the structure at the survey: we look at the cabinetry and the expected loads and decide where a support is needed and where thickness is enough.
Why a manager prices it
An island and a bar counter are not a standard part: they have a varying number of faces, varying level heights and always a bespoke cut. The calculator on the site prices countertops, bathroom surfaces and windowsills, while a project like this is quoted from a sketch.
